Jefferson Parish woman claims her brother took her portion of a life insurance policy

Insurance 11

GRETNA – A Jefferson Parish woman is seeking damages following an incident in which she claims that her brother committed fraud when he allegedly transferred her portion of a life insurance policy to himself.

Michelle Ellsworth filed a suit against Michael Wayne Hunt Jr. in the 24th Judicial District Court on May 9.

According to the claim, the plaintiff and defendant are siblings and shared a life insurance policy that was to be distributed in the event of their mother's death. The suit states that though the plaintiff allegedly knew nothing of it, the defendant purportedly transferred the right to Ellsworth's portion of the policy to himself in 2007 without the knowledge or consent of Ellsworth.

The defendant is accused of breach of contract, fraud and detrimental reliance.

The plaintiff is seeking an unspecified amount in damages. She is represented by Salvador J. Pusateri, Gavin H. Guillot and Rowen A. Fricker of Pusateri, Barrios, Guillot and Greenbaum LLC in New Orleans. The case has been assigned to Division F Judge Michael P. Mentz.
