Jefferson Parish woman alleges elevator closed on her and caused injury

GRETNA – A woman is seeking damages, claiming that elevator doors at a hospital closed on her.

Alma Smith filed a suit against Jefferson Parish Hospital District No. 1, doing business as West Jefferson Medical Center, and XYZ Insurance Co. in the 24th Judicial District Court on April 27.

According to the claim, the plaintiff was at the Jefferson Parish Hospital on May 23, 2015, when the incident occurred. The suit states that while walking into an elevator, the doors closed without warning on the plaintiff, causing her injury.

The defendant is accused of negligence in failing to maintain the premises in a safe condition, failing to keep the premises suitable for visitors, failure in inspecting the property and keeping the visitors advised of any dangers.

The plaintiff is seeking an unspecified amount in damages. She is represented by Edward J. Womac Jr. and Matthew Sutton of the Law Ofices of Edward J. Womac Jr. & Associates in New Orleans. The case has been assigned to Division G Judge E. Adrian Adams.
