Law money 13

LAFAYETTE — A Ouachita Parish woman is suing two credit reporting agencies, alleging unlawful credit reporting practices.

Jana Theresa Chowns filed a lawsuit May 17 in U.S. District Court for the Western District of Louisiana against TransUnion LLC and Experian information Solutions Inc., alleging they failed to comply with the provisions of the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

According to the complaint, Chowns' credit score has been negatively affected causing her to suffer great physical, emotional and mental pain, and anguish. The plaintiff alleges the defendants failed to implement or follow reasonable procedures to prevent any debt from being reported beyond the statutory period, reported and published credit information that is old and obsolete and misrepresented her payment history.

Chowns seeks a trial by jury, compensation for all damages, reasonable attorney fees, legal costs and other relief as is deemed proper. She is represented by attorney Jonathan F. Raburn of Baton Rouge.
