Trucking business alleges contractor, surety companies owe more than $57,000

LAFAYETTE — A Lake Charles trucking company is suing a contractor and surety, alleging breach of contract and failure to pay more than $57,000.

Chaney Trucking & Development Inc. filed a lawsuit June 7 in U.S. District Court for the Western District of Louisiana against Asset Group Inc. and Great American Insurance Group, alleging violating provisions of the Miler Act.

According to the complaint, Chaney Trucking has not received full payment for the work, services, equipment and materials it furnished to Asset in connection with the Fort Folk Project, for an unpaid balance of $57,934.65. 

The plaintiff alleges the defendants failed to comply with their subcontracting agreement by not paying its obligations in a timely manner.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury damages of $57,934.65, pre-judgment and post judgment interest, attorney fees, legal costs and all other relief the court deems appropriate. It is represented by attorneys V. Ed Mcguire III and Kyle M. Beasley of Plauche, Smith & Nieset in Lake Charles.
