Crew member alleges pushboat owner's negligence caused injuries

Tugboat 01

NEW ORLEANS — A crew member is suing a St. Rose pushboat owner, alleging insufficient measures were taken to prevent injuries.

Joseph Joel Lee filed a lawsuit June 15 in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against SCF Liquids, alleging negligence in failing to provide a seaworthy vessel.

According to the complaint, on Aug. 18, 2015, while Lee was working as a pilot aboard the M/V SCF Vision, he fell down an interior stairwell, causing him to sustain severe, painful, and permanently disabling injuries to his left shoulder joint and connecting muscles, tissues and nerves.

The plaintiff alleges SCF Liquids defectively designed and constructed the vessel's interior stairwell and failed to provide a safe place to work.

Lee seeks a trial by jury, compensatory damages in an amount reasonable under the circumstances, all taxable costs and interest as allowed by law and any relief that the case requires. He is represented by attorneys Paul M. Sterbcow and Ian F. Taylor of Lewis, Kullman, Sterbcow & Abramson in New Orleans.
