Bicyclist claims that she was struck by a vehicle and injured

GRETNA – A woman claims that she was injured after being stuck by an automobile while riding her bike.

Nancy Usher Cooper filed a suit against Lawrence A. Defraites and Progressive Insurance Co. in the 24th Judicial District Court on June 20.

According to the claim, the plaintiff was riding her bicycle on May 7 at the intersection of Bent Tree Boulevard and state Route 3134 when the incident occurred. The suit states that while crossing the road, the defendant struck the plaintiff while in his vehicle, resulting in injuries to the plaintiff.

Defraites is accused of recklessness through careless operation of his vehicle, disregarding the safety of those around him, failing to keep a lookout and failing to stop in time to avoid the collision.

The plaintiff is seeking an unspecified amount in damages. She is represented by Cristian P. Silva and Christian Sauce of Cristian P. Silva Law Office in Harvey. The case has been assigned to Division G Judge E. Adrian Adams.
