Cargo ship 02

NEW ORLEANS — A seaman is suing the operators of a ship, alleging their negligence caused him to sustain injuries.

Roger Lee Kilpatrick filed a lawsuit July 1 in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against Mark Drilling USA Inc and Maersk Developer LLC, alleging negligence in violating the Jones Act and General Maritime Law and Diversity.

According to the complaint, on Nov. 30, 2015, Kilpatrick suffered an accident which resulted in serious and painful injuries to his face, neck, head and other parts of his body.

The plaintiff alleges the defendants failed to provide a reasonably safe place to work, created and maintained an un-seaworthy vessel and failed to provide adequate equipment for the job.

Kilpatrick seeks a trial by jury, adequate maintenance benefits and payment of all cure benefits to which he is entitled. He is represented by attorneys Timothy J. Young, Tammy D. Harris, Megan C. Misko and Daniel J. Poolson Jr. of The Young Firm in New Orleans.
