NEW ORLEANS — A woman is seeking damages, claiming that a cooking device exploded while she was using it.
Elizabeth C. Ryan filed a suit against Breville USA Inc. in the Orleans Parish Civil District Court on June 20.
According to the claim, the plaintiff had purchased a Breville Fast Slow-Cooker from Williams-Sonoma Inc. on April 2, 2015. The suit states that while the plaintiff was using the machine and following the instructions on Nov. 30, 2015, the machine exploded, causing the plaintiff injuries to herself. Following her injury, the suit states that the company released a recall notice of the product due to a defect in it.
The defendant is accused of negligence through failing to provide a device that was safe for use, failing to provide adequate instructions and allowing an unsafe device to be distributed.
The plaintiff is seeking an unspecified amount in damages. She is represented by James Ryan III and Craig R. Webb.
The case has been assigned to Division C Judge Sidney H. Cates IV, Chief Judge.
