United Network Insurance & Assoc. allegedly failed to pay worker's compensation

Insurance 02

GRETNA – A construction company is seeking damages, claiming they paid worker's compensation to an employee when he didn't meet the requirements.

Martin Construction Inc. filed a suit against United Network Insurance & Assoc. LLC in the 24th Judicial District Court, Parish of Jefferson, on July 28.

According to the claim, an employee of the plaintiff was injured while on the job. The suit states that the injured individual sought worker's compensation, but it eventually became clear that the individual was not insured for worker's compensation. Though the plaintiff paid for the compensation, the suit states that it was not the responsibility of the plaintiff and that the defendant was actually the party that should have taken such responsibility.

The defendant is accused of negligence through misrepresentation, failure to obtain worker's compensation and breach of duties.

The plaintiff is seeking an unspecified amount in damages. The plaintiff is represented by Stephen E. Broyles of Baton Rouge.

The case has been assigned to Division M Judge Henry G. Sullivan Jr.
