Woman alleges she was injured when drain cover gave way when stepped on

GRETNA – An Orleans Parish woman alleges she was injured after falling into a drain.

Deirdre Givens filed a suit against city of Kenner in the 24th Judicial District Court on Aug. 16.

According to the claim, the plaintiff was walking on Aug. 16, 2015, when the incident occurred. The suit states that the plaintiff was caused to fall and be injured while walking on 715 Village Road when a drainage cover gave way when she stepped on it, causing her to fall into the drain. The suit states the grate cover was defective, negligently installed and improperly maintained.

The defendant is accused of negligence through its failure to maintain the cover of the drainage hole, failure to repair the dangerous condition and other acts of negligence.

The plaintiff is seeking an unspecified amount in damages. The plaintiff is represented by Nanak S. Rai of the Rai Law Firm in New Orleans.

The case has been assigned to Division C Judge June Berry Darensburg.
