Property owner claims American Steel Design Group did substandard work

Contract 04

NEW ORLEANS – A property owner alleges the contractor he hired to build a steel structure did not adequately complete the work as promised.

Jawad Gharib filed a suit against American Steel Design Group LLC and Bennett A. Johnson in the Orleans Parish Civil District Court on May 24.

According to the claim, the plaintiff is the property owner of 4500 Old Gentilly Road and he contracted the defendants for a construction project on his property in September 2015. The suit states that there were changes required to the steel structure that was being built on the property, and though the defendants claimed that the necessary changes had been made, the plaintiff learned that this was not true. The plaintiff was allegedly required to hire additional workers to rectify the condition that the defendants had created.

The defendants are accused of breach of contract, unfair trade practices and negligence.

The plaintiff is seeking an unspecified amount in damages. He is represented by Seth J. Smiley, Bradley Aldrich, Matt Thomas and Donald A. Mau of the Smiley Law Firm in New Orleans.

The case has been assigned to Division L Judge Kern A. Reese.
