LAFAYETTE — A Louisiana woman is suing the United States and a government employee, alleging their negligence led to a vehicle crash that injured the plaintiff.
Leah Bailey filed a lawsuit Aug. 11 in U.S. District Court for the Western District of Louisiana Lafayette Division against the United States America and government employee Shawanda Woods, alleging negligence in failing to ensure the safety of others.
According to the complaint, on Nov. 18, 2014, Woods, was operating a 2013 Hyundai Elantra, owned by and operated with the permission of her employer, the U.S. Navy. The suit says Woods, traveling eastbound on Interstate Highway 20, directly behind Bailey's vehicle in Caddo Parish, crashed into the plaintiff's car.
The suit says Bailey suffered injuries, lost wages, loss of enjoyment of life and medical expenses. On April 27, the lawsuit says, Bailey submitted a SF95 to the U.S. Navy for her damages in the amount of $904,205.24.
The plaintiff alleges Woods failed to maintain control of the vehicle, failed to see what she should have seen and failed to yield right of way.
Bailey seeks a trial by jury, all damages, together with interest, all court costs and all other relief the court deems fit. She is represented by attorney Summer Bluford of Dudley DeBosier Injury Lawyers in Shreveport.
