BATON ROUGE — A seaman is suing Louisiana ship owners, alleging their negligence led to the plaintiff suffering injuries.
Frank Williams III filed a lawsuit Aug. 19 in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against Tim Nguyen, C9 Inc., Nghia Nguyen, Nghia Inc., Jeremiah Pierron and Miss Carla LLC, alleging violation of the general maritime laws of the United States.
According to the complaint, on May 25, Williams was on his bunk resting when his vessel, the C9, was run into by another ship, Miss Carla. The suit says the great impact threw Williams from his bunk and against the metal deck flooring of C9. The fall, the lawsuit says, caused him to injure his neck, back, shoulders and spine.
The lawsuit states Williams has sustained lost wages, physical and mental pain and suffering, loss of enjoyment of life and medical expenses. The plaintiff alleges the defendants failed to provide seaworthy vessels.
The plaintiff requests a trial by jury, compensatory damages, plus interest, maintenance and cure until he reaches maximum medical improvement, attorney’ fees and all equitable relief. He is represented by attorneys Brett J. Prendergast, Michael G. Riehlmann and Bruce G. Whittaker, all of New Orleans.
