NEW ORLEANS – A Terrebonne Parish man claims he injured his knee while working because of the unsafe conditions on the ship.

Chris Dejean filed a complaint on Aug. 30 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against Caillou Island Towing Co. Inc. alleging unseaworthiness.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on June 4, 2015, he was performing his duties aboard the vessel L. Marie when he fell and sustained severe injuries to his knee, which caused him to suffer physical pain and anguish, lost wages and earning capacity, disability and disfigurement.

The plaintiff holds Caillou Island Towing Co. Inc. responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to provide a safe place to work, failed to maintain the deck of the vessel in a safe condition, allowed the non-skid coating on the deck of the vessel to deteriorate and failed to provide notice of a known unsafe condition.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against defendant in an amount sufficient to compensate him for the damages, plus interest, attorney’s fees, costs, expert fees and for all other equitable relief. He is represented by Jennifer N. Willis of Willis & Buckley APC in New Orleans.
