NEW ORLEANS – Two individuals allege a doctor's negligence caused the death of their father.

Raymond Steele Jr. and Deborah Ann Steele filed a suit against Ochsner Clinic Foundation, Ochsner Clinic LLC and Nigel Girgrah M.D. in the Orleans Parish Civil District Court on Sept. 22.

According to the claim, the plaintiffs' decedent, Raymond Steele Sr., consulted Ochsner Clinic LLC and he was examined and found to have fluid in the abdomen. The suit states that in 2014, the man was found to have renal insufficiency. The suit explains that Girgrah failed to properly send warnings to the man to tell him to stop taking diuretics that would further damage his health, a message the decedent did not receive. Raymond Steele Sr. allegedly began to experience worse health and he went into septic shock. He died on Oct. 6, 2014, the suit states.

The defendants are accused of negligence.

The plaintiffs are seeking an unspecified amount in damages. They are represented by Mark W. Smith in Metairie.

The case has been assigned to Division J Judge Paula A. Brown.
