Priority Group Holdings LLC accused of not properly caring for former resident

NEW ORLEANS – Two individuals allege a long-term care facility did not properly care for their late mother.

Lynette Renard and Reginald Renard filed a suit against Priority Group Holdings LLC in the Orleans Parish Civil District Court on Sept. 8.

According to the claim, Elaine Renard was a resident of the defendant's facility, also known as Jo Ellen Smith Convalescent Center, on April 20, 2014, when the incident occurred. The suit states that Elaine Renard was sent to the emergency room with an elevated blood sugar level, decubitus ulcers and other issues but was discharged on May 5, 2014. The suit states that Elaine Renard died Dec. 19, 2014.

The defendant is accused of deviating from the acceptable standard of care for Elaine Renard.

The plaintiffs are seeking an unspecified amount in damages. The plaintiffs are represented by T. Carey Wicker III, J. Alex Watkins and Vincent E. Odom of New Orleans.

The case has been assigned to Division G Judge Robin M. Giarrusso.
