EDWARDSVILLE — A crew member is suing Danos and Curole Marine Contractors LLC and Baywater Drilling LLC, employer and drilling barge owner, citing alleged insufficient measures were taken to prevent injuries and negligence.

Richard Kerlegan filed a complaint in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against the defendants alleging that they failed to provide a safe place to work.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that, on March 21, he sustained severe injuries while employed by defendant Danos and Curole and in the service of defendant's Baywater drilling barge, Timberlier. As a result of his injuries, he has suffered physical, emotional and mental pain, disability, loss of earning capacity and incurred medical expenses. The plaintiff holds Danos and Curole Marine Contractors LLC and Baywater Drilling LLC responsible because the defendants allegedly failed to properly supervise and control the operation being conducted at the barge, failed to provide safe and appropriate equipment for the job and failed to furnish maintenance and cure benefits.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks compensation in an amount reasonable in the premises, together with maintenance and cure benefits, punitive damages, attorney’s fees and costs and for all other equitable relief. He is represented by John G. Munoz of Garner & Munoz in New Orleans.
