Flight Academy of New Orleans passenger seeks damages after crash in Lake Pontchartrain

NEW ORLEANS – A passenger on a sunset flight alleges she was injured when the plane crashed into Lake Pontchartrain earlier this summer.

Briana Davis filed a suit against Flight Academy of New Orleans LLC in the Orleans Parish Civil District Court on Nov. 14.

According to the claim, the plaintiff was a passenger in a Cessna operated by the defendant on Aug. 27, 2016, when the incident occurred. The suit states that the plane encountered a storm and descended Lake Pontchartrain. The suit states other passenger in the plane died, but the plaintiff survived and sustained injuries.

The defendant is accused of negligence through failing to monitor the weather, failing to ensure that the plane was safe for flying in and fault of the pilot of the plane.

The plaintiff is seeking an unspecified amount in damages. She is represented by John D. Sileo and Casey W. Moll of New Orleans.

The case has been assigned to Division C Judge Sidney H. Cates IV.
