Luba Casualty Insurance Co. claims roll of cable injured worker, caused damages for workers' comp claim

NEW ORLEANS – An insurance company is seeking damages after it had to pay a workers' compensation claim.

Luba Casualty Insurance Co. filed a suit against Hi-Tech Electric Inc., Louisiana Energy Solutions LLC and Educational Electronics Corp. in the Orleans Parish Civil District Court on Nov. 14.

According to the claim, a female employee of Tymeless Flooring was working and cleaning the floor of a school in Orleans Parish on Dec. 7, 2015. The suit states that a roll of cable fell and struck her in the back, causing her to be injured, and that the plaintiff paid workers' compensation benefits.

The defendants are accused of failing to properly maintain and secure the roll of cable.

The plaintiff is seeking an unspecified amount in damages. The plaintiff is represented by David T. Butler Jr. of Funderburk and Butler of Baton Rouge.

The case has been assigned to Division M Judge Paulette R. Irons.
