SHREVEPORT — A Pennsylvania premier events distributor is suing commercial establishment operators, alleging satellite piracy.

Joe Hand Promotions Inc. of Feasterville, Pennsylvania, filed a lawsuit Dec. 4, in U.S. District Court for the Western District of Louisiana against ABM Management LLC, doing business as Fully Stacked Bar & Grill, Robert Fuqua and Christopher Anthony, alleging violation of the Communications Act.

According to the complaint, on Jan. 3, 2015, Joe Hand broadcast Ultimate Fighting Championship® 182: Jones v. Cormier live via a nationwide telecast. As a result of the defendants' unlawful actions at Fully Stacked Grill in Shreveport, the suit says, the plaintiff suffered monetary damages.

The plaintiff alleges the defendants did not contract the plaintiff and pay a fee to obtain the proper license or authorization to broadcast the fight and willfully intercepted and unlawfully transmitted and published the program.

Joe Hand Promotions seeks trial by jury, statutory damages up to $110,000 for willful violation of 47 U.S.C. § 605, or alternatively, statutory damages up to $60,000 for willful violation of 47 U.S.C. § 553, attorney fees, interest, court costs and all other just relief. It is represented by attorney Dorothy L. Tarver of Tagart Morton LLC in New Orleans.
