Consumer accuses Alco Collections Inc. of unlawful collection practices

Late 01

BATON ROUGE – A Baton Rouge consumer has filed a class-action lawsuit against a debt collector over allegations that a letter it sent violations debt collection laws.

Shena Bland, individually and on behalf of all others similarly situated, filed a complaint on Dec. 6 in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Louisiana against Alco Collections Inc. alleging that the debt collection agency violated the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Aug. 3, she received collection letter from defendant attempting to collect an alleged debt. The plaintiff holds Alco Collections Inc. responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to provide the name and address of the original creditor, and failed to properly notify plaintiff of her statutory rights, requirements and obligations.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks compensation for statutory and/or actual damages, plus interest, attorneys’ fees, costs and disbursements and for such other just and proper relief. She is represented by Marc R. Michaud of Patrick Miller LLC in New Orleans.
