NEW ORLEANS – A tax deed owner is suing a property owner, seeking possession of a poorly maintained property.

Lakisha Butler filed a lawsuit Jan. 9 against Kendrick J. Bacon in Orleans Parish Civil District Court, alleging a property owner shirked his responsibilities.

According to the complaint, Butler is the tax deed purchaser of 6918 Mayo Blvd., New Orleans. The suit states Bacon was the titled owner of that property and failed to maintain the property, allowing plant growth to go unchecked, fences without repairs and other defects making the property uninhabitable.

Additionally, the suit says, Bacon failed to pay ad valorem taxes that were due in 2015 and 2016. The suit states as the tax deed owner, Butler is seeking possession of the property.

Butler seeks all reasonable damages, court costs, attorney fees and all appropriate relief. She is represented by attorney Kyle S. Sclafani of New Orleans.

The case has been assigned to Division N Judge Ethel S. Julien.
