NEW ORLEANS – A Jefferson Parish man has filed suit for $1.5 million in damages over claims an East Baton Rouge Parish corporation's negligence caused him injuries.
Michael T. Velasquez Jr. filed a complaint on Feb. 2 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against Crescent Towing & Salvage Co. Inc. alleging negligence.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Feb. 14, 2016, he was working aboard defendant's vessel, the Angus R. Cooper. As he was traversing the stairs in the engine room, the suit states he slipped on the stairs and fell several feet. He alleges he sustained serious injuries resulting in physical and mental pain, loss wages and medical related expenses. The plaintiff holds Crescent Towing & Salvage Co. Inc. responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to install non-skid surface on the engine room stairs and failed to warn plaintiff of the hazardous condition.
The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks monetary relief of $1.5 million, plus interest and costs of these proceedings. He is represented by William R. Mustian III of Stanga & Mustian PLC in Metairie.
