NEW ORLEANS – Three African-American women allege that they were subjected to disparate treatment during their employment with a Kenner casino.
Natara Westerfield, Semone Butler and Tracey Breaux filed a complaint on March 16 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against Boyd Gaming Corp. and Treasure Chest Casino LLC alleging that they violated Title VII of the Civil Rights Act.
According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege that during their employment with the defendants, they were denied the opportunity for promotions, were subjected to racially derogatory comments and were treated differently than their white counterparts. As a result, they allege they have suffered lost wages and benefits, emotional distress and incurred medical treatment.
The plaintiffs hold Boyd Gaming Corp. and Treasure Chest Casino LLC responsible because the defendants allegedly subjected them to discrimination, harassment, hostile work environment, retaliation and termination for complaining unlawful treatment.
The plaintiffs request a trial by jury and seek compensatory and punitive damages, plus interest, attorneys' fees and costs and any other relief that the court may deem just and appropriate. They are represented by Blaine M. Herbert and Loan H. Do of Herbert Law Firm LLC in Marrero.
