Sabine Parish man claims alarm surprised him, causing him to fall on beam that punctured leg

NEW ORLEANS – A man is seeking damages for an injury that he sustained while working.

Steven Bell Sr. and Arhonda Bell, individually and on behalf of their minor children, filed a lawsuit April 28 against Robert Ray, The Medic, Nacher Corp., Mistras Group, Freeport McMoran Inc., Burner Fire Control Inc. and XYZ Insurance Co. in Orleans Parish Civil District Court alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs are residents of Sabine Parish. The suit states that the plaintiff was employed by the defendant on April 30, 2016. The plaintiff was performing his duties, cleaning the platform of the Holstein Spar Platform of oil, when an alarm was sounded that disturbed him and caused him to slip and fall onto a loose beam, which punctured the man's leg.

The defendant is accused of negligence for failing to ensure that the workplace was safe for the plaintiff, failing to warn of the danger and sounding the alarm in a way that caused the plaintiff to be injured.

The plaintiff seeks all reasonable damages, court costs, attorney fees and all appropriate relief. The plaintiff is represented by attorney Inemesit O'Boyle of Chehardy, Sherman, Williams, Murray, Recile, Stakelum & Hayes LLP in Metairie.

The case has been assigned to Division M Judge Paulette R. Irons.
