Orleans Parish woman claims she fell when bus started moving before she was seated

NEW ORLEANS – An Orleans Parish woman is seeking damages when she was caused to fall on a bus.

Linda Washington filed a lawsuit May 1 against Transdev Service Inc., individually and as successor to Veolia Transportation Services Inc., New Orleans Regional Transit Authority and Princeton Excess and Surplus Lines Insurance Co. in Orleans Parish Civil District Court alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff was on RTA bus No. 272 on March 28 when the incident occurred. The suit states that the plaintiff uses a walker and was on the way to her seat when the bus started moving, causing the plaintiff to fall down and sustain injuries.

The defendant is accused of negligence through failing to warn of the bus' imminent movement, failing to take appropriate precautions for the passengers and overall negligence.

The plaintiff seeks all reasonable damages, court costs, attorney fees and all appropriate relief. The plaintiff is represented by attorneys George B. Recile and Barry W. Sartin Jr. of Chehardy, Sherman, Williams, Murray, Recile, Stakelum & Hayes LLP in Metairie.

The case has been assigned to Division A Judge Tiffany G. Chase.
