Woman claims she had to be hospitalized after consuming crab meat from Winn-Dixie

NEW ORLEANS – A consumer alleges crab meat purchased at a Slidell grocery store made her sick.

Evangeline Smith filed a complaint on May 10 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against Winn-Dixie Montgomery LLC.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on June 3, 2016, she plaintiff became very ill and was hospitalized after consuming the crab meat that a relative purchased from the defendant's grocery store. The suit states she was treated for bacteremia, aeromonas sepsis, salmonella and a liver abscess.

The plaintiff seeks damages for all sums reasonable under the circumstances, together with all recoverable costs, plus legal interest and all general and equitable relief. She is represented by Ben E. Clayton of Clayton Law Firm LLC in Bogalusa.
