Consumer claims John Lee Jackson, Universal Fidelity LP sent unlawful collection letter

Late 02

NEW ORLEANS – A consumer has filed a class-action lawsuit against two Houston-based debt collectors over allegations that they used deceptive collection practices.

Jeanne Autin, individually and on behalf of all others similarly situated, filed a complaint on May 12 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against John Lee Jackson, Universal Fidelity LP and Does 1-25 alleging that they violated the Fair Debt Collections Practices Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that the defendants sent her a collection letter in May 2016 regarding an alleged debt to Home at Five. The plaintiff holds Jackson, Universal Fidelity LP and Does 1-25 responsible because the defendants allegedly willfully used abusive, deceptive and unfair debt collection practices by failing to include an accurate 1692g notice in the letter.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks actual and statutory damages, interest, attorneys’ fees and expenses and all further relief as the court may deem just and proper. She is represented by Jonathan Raburn of McCarty & Raburn in Baton Rouge and Ari Marcus of Marcus Zelman LLC in Ocean, New Jersey.
