Deckhand employed on tugboat alleges he was injured when boat was struck

Tugboat 01

NEW ORLEANS – A St. Mary Parish man alleges that he was injured while employed as a deckhand because of a collision between two vessels.

Matthew Lewis Collingwood filed a complaint on May 12 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against Knots Marine Inshore Inc., Weeks Marine Inc., Atlantic Specialty Insurance and XYZ insurance company alleging negligence and unseaworthiness.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on May 20, 2016, he was employed by defendant Knots Marine working aboard the tugboat M/V Hooking Bull when another boat operated by defendant Weeks Marine slammed into the M/V Hooking Bull. The plaintiff alleges he received serious injuries resulting in physical and mental pain, economic losses and medical expenses.

The plaintiff holds Knots Marine Inshore Inc., Weeks Marine Inc., Atlantic Specialty Insurance and XYZ insurance company responsible because the defendants allegedly failed to maintain the boats under proper control.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against defendants, pre- and post-judgment interest and all other relief to which he may be justly entitled. He is represented by Joseph A. Tabb of Baudry & Tabb LLC in Franklin.
