New Orleans doctor accused of breaching provider agreement

NEW ORLEANS – A New Orleans doctor allegedly breached a contract and failed to refer patients to other doctors.

Louisiana Health Service & Indemnity Co., doing business as Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana and HMO Louisiana Inc., filed a lawsuit June 6 against Dr. Lance Estrada in Orleans Parish Civil District Court alleging he violated a provider agreement.

According to the complaint, the provider agreement between the defendant and the plaintiff said he would refer patients to other network providers from the plaintiff's database. The suit states that the defendant has failed to maintain the contract by not to referring patients to network health care providers.

The defendant is accused of breach of contract.

The plaintiff seeks all reasonable damages, court costs, attorney fees and all appropriate relief. The plaintiff is represented by attorney P. Michael Boyd.

The case has been assigned to Division C Judge Sidney H. Cates IV.
