NEW ORLEANS – A man later exonerated of murder charges has filed a suit against several attorneys seeking compensatory damages.

Jerome Morgan filed a complaint on May 26 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against District Attorney Harry F. Connick, Assistant District Attorney Sharon Andrews, Assistant District Attorney Karen Godail, et al. alleging malicious prosecution and other counts.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that he was wrongfully convicted of second degree murder as a teen in a 1993 case and served 20 years in prison before being exonerated. The plaintiff holds Connick, Andrews, Godail, et al. responsible because the defendants allegedly wrongfully concealed exculpatory evidence and deprived him of his right to testify on his own behalf.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks compensatory and punitive damages, attorney's fees and costs and any other relief to which he is entitled. He is representing himself.
