LAFAYETTE – A St. Landry Parish man employed by a Galliano company is seeking millions in damages after he slipped and fell because of an allegedly slippery deck on a skiff.

Herman Oliver filed a complaint on June 8 in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Louisiana, Lafayette Division against Crosby Dredging LLC alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that in June 22, 2016, he was working as a leverman on defendant's Dredge Caroline Francis when he slipped and fell on the front deck of the skiff. Plaintiff alleges he sustained severe injuries to his cervical and lumbar spine and will continue to suffer great pain and agony, loss wages and medical expenses.

The plaintiff holds Crosby Dredging LLC responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to provide a safe place to work and failed to warn its crewmembers of the slipping hazard on the deck.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against the defendant in the amount of $3 million with interest and all other general and equitable relief. He is represented by James P. Ryan and Kathleen E. Ryan of Morrow, Morrow, Ryan & Bassett in Opelousas.
