SHREVEPORT – An insurance company is seeking damages from a Caddo Parish woman and a Bossier Parish woman who are alleged to have taken money while working for a nursing facility.
Federal Insurance Co. filed a complaint on June 22 in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Louisiana, Shreveport Division against Jacqueline Abrone and Pamela Hyde alleging conspiracy and conversion, fraud, defalcation and embezzlement and other counts.
According to the complaint, the defendants were former employees of Southern Oaks Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, which had an insurance policy through the plaintiff. The suit states that the defendants were arrested in July 2016 and charged with felony theft of more than $10,000; Hyde later entered a guilty plea to misdemeanor charges and Abrone pled guilty to felony charges. The suit states Southern Oak's investigation found that that more than $72,000 dollars' worth of payments meant for a resident's room and board had been improperly diverted to the defendants.
The plaintiff now seeks subrogation for the losses sustained by Southern Oaks as a result of the defendants' alleged acts.
The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment in plaintiff's favor for the sum of $125,718, plus interest, costs of this proceeding and all further legal and equitable relief. It is represented by Matt J. Farley and Rebecca B. Farina of Krebs Farley PLLC in New Orleans.
