Shipyard Services alleges it is still owed $92,400 for ship repairs

Late 04

NEW ORLEANS – A Plaquemine Parish company alleges it has not been paid in full for repairs it made to a ship.

Shipyard Services LLC filed a complaint on June 30 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance USA Inc. alleging breach of contract.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that it was hired to repair the M/V Miss Wynter, owned by Abe's Boat Rentals, in January. On April 21, the suit states the defendant paid plaintiff $100,000 as partial payment but to date, the remaining amount of $92,400 remains unpaid. The suit states Abe's Boat Rentals had a policy of insurance with the defendant.

The plaintiff seeks damages equal to the amounts covered by the policy, attorneys’ fees, costs and expenses and any further relief that is fair and equitable. It is represented by Francis J. Lobrano and Seth E. Bagwell of Carver Darden Koretzky Tessier Finn Blossman & Areaux LLC in New Orleans.
