Man claims he was injured when rental home's floor collapsed

NEW ORLEANS – A man claims that he was injured when the floor of his rental unit collapsed.

Rockell Cyrus filed a lawsuit on Nov. 7 against Elaine Jefferson, John E. Jefferson Jr., and America's Insurance Company in Orleans Parish Civil District Court alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff is seeking damages for an incident that took place on Nov. 26, 2016. The suit states that the plaintiff was walking through the bedroom of the property at 8438 Jeannette St., Orleans Parish, when the floor collapsed and he fell.

The defendants are accused of negligence through failure to maintain the property or warn of dangers.

The plaintiff seeks all reasonable damages, court costs, attorney fees and all appropriate relief. The plaintiff is represented by attorney Lauren A. Favret of Favret, Demarest, Russo, Lutkewitte & Schaumberg in New Orleans.

The case has been assigned to Division G Judge Robin M. Giarrusso.
