YMCA accused of negligence in man's death

NEW ORLEANS – A woman claims that her husband's death was the fault of a YMCA.

Alendra Niang filed a lawsuit on Nov. 8 against Dryades YMCA School of Commerce Inc. and XYZ Insurance Co. in Orleans Parish Civil District Court alleging negligence

According to the complaint, the plaintiff is seeking damages for an incident that took place on March 2, 2017. The suit states that the plaintiff's husband collapsed during a basketball game and needed basic life support efforts; however, there was no AED on the premises to revive him as required by state law. 

The defendant is accused of negligence through failing to have an AED on the premises.

The plaintiff seeks all reasonable damages, court costs, attorney fees and all appropriate relief. The plaintiff is represented by attorney M. Suzanne Montero in New Orleans.

The case has been assigned to Division L Judge Kern A. Reese.
