Patient claims faulty medical device left her immobile

GRETNA — A woman claims that she was injured by a faulty medical device.

Linda V. Mayer filed a suit on Nov. 7 against Robert Juul; St. Jude Medical S.C. Inc, aka Axium Neurostimulator; Abbott Laboratories Inc. (Delaware), aka Abbott Laboratories International LLC and Abbott in the 24th Judicial District Court alleging negligence.

According to the claim, the plaintiff had an outpatient procedure performed on Nov. 2, 2016 to install a medical device, during which time, Juul, a medical salesman allegedly was present and participated in the procedure. The plaintiff claims the product was faulty and had to be removed on Nov. 7, 2016. 

As a result, the plaintiff allegedly was left with severe pain in her spine and the rest of her body, and has lost the use of her right leg, causing her partial immobility.

The defendants are accused of negligence.

The plaintiff is seeking all reasonable sums due, attorney fees and court costs. The plaintiff is represented by Brigette M. Piattoly of Piattoly Law Firm in New Orleans.

The case has been assigned to Division F Judge Michael P. Mentz.
