Company claims contractor's actions caused fire

NEW ORLEANS – A company claims that a contractor caused a fire that resulted in lost business for months.

Bromcox Enterprises LLC, dba Bar Culture, filed a lawsuit Dec. 8 against Duxworth Roofing and Sheetmetal Inc., et. al., in Orleans Parish Civil District Court alleging breach of contract and negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff is seeking damages claiming they contracted the defendant to complete work on the plaintiff's roof. The suit states the defendant, in the scope of the repairs, caused a fire, which damaged the plaintiff's property as well as the one next to it, also belonging to the plaintiff. The plaintiff suffered damages due to not being able to use the building for at least 10 months.

The defendant is accused of negligence and breach of contract.

The plaintiff seeks all reasonable damages, court costs, attorney fees and all appropriate relief. The plaintiff is represented by attorney David J. Halpern of Kean Miller LLP in New Orleans.

The case has been assigned to Division G Judge Robin Giarusso.

The Orleans Parish Civil District Court Case No., is 2017-11760.
