Woman claims landlord failed to install safety feature

NEW ORLEANS – A woman is seeking damages after she slipped and fell in her shower.

Alicia Hebert filed a lawsuit March 29 against Lafitte Treme Oak Place LLC, McCormack Baron Management Inc., Interstate Realty Management Co., DEF Insurance Co., GHI Insurance Co. and JKI Insurance Co. in Orleans Parish Civil District Court alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff is seeking damages for an incident that took place while the plaintiff was a tenant at the defendant's property. The suit states the plaintiff requested that changes be made to her property, namely to add grab bars in the bathroom for her own safety. The suit states the defendant failed to add the bars in a timely manner, even though they were requested with the plaintiff's doctor's approval, and the plaintiff was caused to fall.

The defendant is accused of negligence.

The plaintiff seeks all reasonable damages, court costs, attorney fees and all appropriate relief. The plaintiff is represented by attorney Krista Eleew of Scandurro & Layrisson LLC in New Orleans.

The case has been assigned to Division I Judge Piper Griffin.

The Orleans Parish Civil District Court Case No. is 18-3124.
