GRETNA — A couple claims that they were injured by a negligent driver.

La Shonda Melancon and Wilfred Perrilloux filed a suit on April 16 in the 24th Judicial District Court against Jefferson Parish Streets Department and XYZ Insurance Company, alleging negligence.

According to the claim, the plaintiffs are seeking damages for an incident that allegedly took place on April 19, 2017 when they were on a bus operated by Eagle Transit of Jefferson Parish. The suit states that the driver put the bus in reverse and ran over a lifted storm drain, which allegedly caused the plaintiffs to sustain injuries when the bus bounced up and down.

The plaintiffs are seeking all reasonable sums due, attorney's fees and court costs. The plaintiff is represented by Rosalyn Ruffin-Duley in La Place.

The case has been assigned to Division C Judge June Berry Darensburg.

The 24th Judicial District Court case number 782776.
