Man says he was struck by sports bar's umbrella

NEW ORLEANS – A man claims he was struck by a sports bar's unfastened umbrella.

Steven C. Carter filed a lawsuit April 16 against American Sports Saloon LLC in Orleans Parish Civil District Court alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff is seeking damages for an incident that took place on Oct. 4, 2017 when the plaintiff was standing under the balcony of the American Sports Saloon on 1200 Decatur St. The suit states the plaintiff was injured when an umbrella fell from the defendant's balcony and struck the plaintiff on the head and shoulder, resulting in injuries.

The defendant is accused of negligence.

The plaintiff seeks all reasonable damages, court costs, attorney fees and all appropriate relief. The plaintiff is represented by attorney Jacob Powell of the Law Offices of Edward Womac Jr. & Associates LLC in New Orleans.

The case has been assigned to Division L Judge Kern Reese.

The Orleans Parish Civil District Court Case No. is 2018-3706.
