St. Matthew the Apostle Roman Catholic Church accused of negligence after man allegedly struck by car

GRETNA — A man is seeking damages after he allegedly was struck by a car.

Darrin Songy filed a suit on April 20 in the 24th Judicial District Court against St. Matthew the Apostle Roman Catholic Church; River Ridge Louisiana; Catholic Mutual Group, a/k/a the Catholic Mutual Relief Society of America; the Roman Catholic Church of the Archdiocese of New Orleans; Rush J. Carlton; Jamie Carlton; Liberty Mutual Insurance Company; ABC Insurance Company; and Allstate Insurance Company, alleging negligence.

According to the claim, the plaintiff is seeking damages for an incident that allegedly took place on April 21, 2017 when he allegedly was at the St. Matthew Men's Club Crawfish Cookoff, which was held on property owned by St. Matthew the Apostle Catholic Church. The suit claims that the plaintiff was injured when a large vehicle drove into the event area and allegedly struck him.

The plaintiff is seeking all reasonable sums due, attorney's fees and court costs. The plaintiff is represented by Bernard A. Dupuy of the Law Office of David I Courcelle LLC in Metairie.

The case has been assigned to Division C Judge June Berry Darensburg.
