Man files suit against New Orleans over allegations drain top was defective, caused injuries

NEW ORLEANS – A Jefferson Parish man claims that he was injured when he fell into a drain hole.

Joseph Guidry filed a lawsuit June 1 against the city of New Orleans and Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans in Orleans Parish Civil District Court alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges he was walking from a vehicle to the sidewalk on June 3, 2017, and stepped through a drainage cover/catch basin. He alleges he was injured and that the sewerage drain top was defective and damaged, causing him to fall in the hole.

The defendants are alleged to have failed to properly maintain and inspect their work areas.

The plaintiff seeks all reasonable damages, court costs and all appropriate relief. The plaintiff is represented by attorney John D. Sileo and Casey W. Moll in New Orleans.

The case has been assigned to Division I Judge Piper D. Griffin.
