Man sues property owner following shooting

GRETNA – A man is seeking damages after he was shot in a parking lot.

David Baez filed a complaint on Nov. 16 in the 24th Judicial District Court against Varela North Monterey Properties.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff is seeking damages for an incident that took place on Nov. 18, 2017 when the plaintiff David Baez was residing at the defendant's property. The suit states the plaintiff was made a victim of armed robbery after he was robbed and shot in a parking lot that lacked sufficient lighting. The plaintiff alleges that the lack of light caused him to be sneaked up on.

The defendant is accused of negligence and failing to take the necessary precautions to prevent the incident.

The plaintiff is seeking all reasonable sums due, attorney fees and court costs. The plaintiff is represented by Tom Harang of Tom Harang Law LLC in Metairie.

The case has been assigned to Division G Judge E. Adrian Adams.
