Disaster Recovery Unit seeks $37,500 on unpaid grant

GRETNA –The state of Louisiana alleges that a resident was negligent in paying back a grant that was meant for a home repair.

The State of Louisiana Division of Administration Office of Community Development Disaster Recovery Unit filed a complaint on Jan. 11 in the 24th Judicial District Court against Angeline L. Douglas.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff is seeking damages for sums due on a government grant. The suit states the defendant was loaned a grant for the purpose of completing the elevation of a home, but that the grant was meant to be repaid after a period of time. The defendant allegedly has failed to pay back the grant and is now indebted for the balance of $37,500 in sums due.

The defendant is accused of sums due on a government grant.

The plaintiff is seeking all reasonable sums due, attorney fees and court costs. The plaintiff is represented by John Walsh of Shows, Cali & Walsh LLP in Baton Rouge.

The case has been assigned to Division I Judge Nancy Miller.

The 24th Judicial District Court Case No. is 791175.
