Disaster Recovery Unit files court action seeking $37,500

GRETNA – The State of Louisiana is seeking damages, alleging a man failed to use a government grant for specified purposes.

State of Louisiana Division of Administration Office of Community Development Disaster Recovery Unit filed a complaint on Jan. 14 in the 24th Judicial District Court against Eldridge Joseph Lawrence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff is seeking damages for sums due on a government grant. The suit states the defendant was lent money that was to be used to make repairs on their home, but he allegedly failed to use the funding appropriately. The defendant allegedly owes $37,500 in sums due.

The defendant is accused of sums due on a government grant.

The plaintiff is seeking all reasonable sums due, attorney fees and court costs. The plaintiff is represented by John Walsh of Shows, Cali & Walsh LLP in Baton Rouge.

The case has been assigned to Division I Judge Nancy Miller.
