State sues couple for more than $37,000 in grant money

GRETNA – The state of Louisiana is seeking damages of more than $37,000 it claims is owed on a grant that was improperly used.

The State of Louisiana Division of Administration Office of Community Development Disaster Recovery Unit filed a complaint against Cheryl Lewis and Ivan Lewis, aka Ivan G. Lewis, on Feb. 7 in the 24th Judicial District Court. According to the lawsuit, the plaintiff is seeking damages for sums due on an unpaid grant.

The suit states that the defendants were given a grant to make repairs to their property, but have failed to use the funds for that purpose and now are indebted to the plaintiff for $37,500. The defendants are accused of sums due on an unpaid grant.


The plaintiff, represented by John C. Walsh of Shows, Cali & Walsh LLP in Baton Rouge, is seeking all reasonable sums due, attorney fees and court costs. The case has been assigned to Division D Judge Scott U. Schlegel.
