Woman sued for $37,500 for alleged misuse of a grant

GRETNA – The state of Louisiana is seeking more than $37,000 in sums due on a government grant it has accused a woman of misusing.

State of Louisiana Division of Administration Office of Community Development Disaster Recovery Unit filed a complaint against Shelley M. Dent, aka Shelley Marie Dent, on Feb. 11 in the 24th Judicial District Court. According to the complaint, the plaintiff states that the defendant has failed to pay off a grant that was given to make home repairs to the defendant's property. The plaintiff is currently seeking $37,500 in sums due.

The plaintiff is seeking all reasonable sums due, attorney fees and court costs. The state is represented by John C. Walsh of Shows, Cali & Walsh LLP in Baton Rouge.


The case has been assigned to Division K Judge Ellen Shirer Kovach.
