TAYLOR PORTER BROOKS PHILLIPS LLP: Hester Appointed to Louisiana State Law Institute Successions and Donations Committee

Taylor Porter Partner and estate planning attorney Mary Hester has been appointed to the Louisiana State Law Institute's Successions and Donations Committee. Hester has been a longtime council member of the LSLI, and formerly served on the Council's Conditional Charitable Donations Committee, the UPMIFA Committee, and the Charitable Trust Law Revision Subcommittee.

The LSLI, originally authorized by the Board of Supervisors of the Louisiana State University and Agricultural and Mechanical College, with its domicile at the Law School of that University, was chartered, created and organized as an official law revision commission, law reform agency and legal research agency of the State of Louisiana, by Act 166 of the Legislature of 1938 (Chapter 4 of Title 24 of the Louisiana Revised Statutes of 1950). With a membership of over 400, the LSLI works to solve problems in Louisiana law and particularly the projects under consideration by the Council, and brings together representatives of the legislature, members of the bench and bar, and representatives of the law-teaching profession.

At Taylor Porter, Hester practices in estate planning and administration; federal estate and gift taxation; trust law; making charitable gifts through charitable remainder trusts, charitable lead trusts, private foundations, supporting organizations, or private operating foundations; and counseling nonprofit organizations. Hester has been named three times as "Trusts and Estates Lawyer of the Year" in Baton Rouge by Best Lawyers in America® (2018, 2016, and 2012). She was included in the Super Lawyers list of the "Top 25 Women Attorneys in Louisiana," from 2010-2012. She has been listed in Best Lawyers and Super Lawyers since 2008.

Hester is a Fellow in the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel as well as a Louisiana Board Certified Estate Planning and Administration Specialist. She formerly served on the Estate Planning and Administration Law Advisory Commission for the Louisiana Board of Legal Specialization. Her professional memberships include the Baton Rouge, Louisiana State and American Bar Associations and the Baton Rouge Estate and Business Planning Council. Hester is a Fellow of the Louisiana Bar Foundation and of the American Bar Foundation. Hester serves on the Planning Committee for the Louisiana State University Paul M. Hebert Law Center’s Annual Estate Planning Seminar. Her civic affiliations include the LSU Foundation’s Planned Giving Professional Advisors Council, Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center Foundation Professional Advisors Council, and the Baton Rouge Area Foundation Professional Advisors Council.
