With close to half of the state's 105 House seats open this October due to term limits, the Louisiana Oil and Gas Association see an opportunity for advancing reforms and plans on educating voters on reform-minded candidates.
“With the large turnover in the legislature due to term limits (47 seats are up for grabs), these elections are very important,” Gifford Briggs, president of the Louisiana Oil and Gas Association, told Louisiana Record. “We believe that these elections are so crucial that LOGA created an election platform, geauxelections.com, so that every voter in Louisiana has the opportunity to educate themselves about the candidates running in their area.”
The site outlines the candidates running for each and every parish in the state, providing information about their endorsements, as well as contact information for each candidate and direct access to their websites.
Briggs said the most important areas for reform include the tax code, civil justice system, and the state constitution.
“We must not passively pull the lever for a candidate," he said. "We must be engaged to ensure candidates represent our values."
